India’s medical education sector has reached a historic milestone, with the total number of MBBS seats increasing to 1,37,600 across government and private medical colleges. This growth reflects the government’s continued efforts to expand access to medical education, enhance healthcare infrastructure, and address the shortage of doctors across the country.

The latest update also provides a state-wise distribution of MBBS seats, showing significant growth in states such as Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. The increase in capacity is attributed to the establishment of new government medical colleges, expansion of existing institutions, and streamlined approval processes by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
