About Scheme
Nari Adalat, a component of the 'Sambal' sub-scheme under Mission Shakti, provides women with an alternate grievance redressal mechanism at the Gram Panchayat level. It addresses petty cases of harassment, curtailment of rights, or subversion through negotiation, mediation, and reconciliation with mutual consent, ensuring speedy, accessible, and affordable justice.
Details
The scheme is implemented in a phased manner in selected Gram Panchayats across Assam, Jammu & Kashmir, Bihar, Karnataka, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Women collectives called Nari Adalats, comprising socially respected women, mediate disputes and create awareness about legal rights, entitlements, and social facilitation. Nyaya Sakhis, nominated by the Gram Panchayat, run the Nari Adalats under the leadership of Mukhya Nyaya Sakhi (MNS), with tenure of six months.
